Keeping in mind that a song can be processed and promote learning a new language – in this case, Modern Greek –, but also the fact that there are many songs which present the history, mentality and viewpoint of Greeks in many situations, we undertook the creation of an educational material based on songs. These songs are known to everybody and can work not only as a means of teaching grammatical and syntactical phenomena, but also as a source of information about the way of life and the beliefs of the nation who created them. Exercises, games and activities, starting from the vocabulary and the grammatical forms of the songs, texts that describe the social or cultural environment or talk about their composers are the features of every unit. Ancient Greek is undoubtedly a conveyor of cultural elements with a big significance in the field of Classical Studies, a fact that justifies its existence in many Universities and schools all over the world. Making an effort to help those who already know Ancient Greek learn Modern as well, we realized the need to create an educational material that will aim in this passage, from the Ancient to the Modern Greek. Through the cross-examination of ancient and modern texts, quite well-known ones, and by insisting on words that have kept almost the same form in Modern Greek, we try to demonstrate that learning a new language is not as difficult as people think. . The existence of common words –mostly of Greek origin – in different languages and the policy of many teachers to use them in their first lessons in order to show their students that there are Greek words that they already know, was the basic idea of this particular educational material. Our aim was to gather some of those words and make them the main body of the lessons, while, simultaneously, they can work as an encouragement to those who wish to learn Greek. Based on these words, we separated them according to context, made dialogues, included authentic simplified texts for this level and we created a really appealing and interesting manual.
